In 1902, Goodwill was founded in Boston, Massachusetts by Dr. Edgar J. Helmsin order to create jobs for people with barriers such as immigrants through selling donated goods. Goodwill was introduced in Korea by Dr. Youngwoo Kang and the 1st Goodwill store was opened in 2003 by Hosanna Church in Busan. Followed by Yangcheon, Suwon, Songpa, Dobong and Eunpyung,total 11 Goodwill stores are now supplying jobs for more than 200 people with disabilities or barriers. With the motto of “Not charity but a chance” and visioning the productive welfare system, Goodwill in Korea strives to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by helping people reach their full potential through education, skills training and the power of work.
